Check out the photo next to this text—yes, that's me in college, standing with a friend in front of my tornado-hit closet. Clothes were everywhere, coat hangers hanging on for dear life, and the pièce de résistance: a Jean-Claude Van Damme poster for design inspiration. It looked like he had been kicking butt in our closets. That scene marked the beginning of my journey.

Meeting a college friend who was organized opened my eyes to the benefits of living lighter. I learned that organizing is a skill anyone can develop, not an innate talent. If I could transform my life from that chaotic mess, so can you! My closet was a disaster, and now people hire me to organize theirs (and their minds).

P.S. I think the deodorant was a nod to Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” album, and I have no explanation for wearing my chemistry lab goggles. My partner in closet crime, my roommate, was also first in our class, a double major in organic chemistry and math, and president of her sorority. Proof that you can be amazing in many areas and may still need help in others.
